Sang-Yong is an associate professor at the Department of Chemistry, Yonsei University. His current research interests are 1D and 2D nanomaterials including carbon nanotubes and graphenes.

He received B.S. degree (1998) from the Hanyang University. After obtaining his M.S. degree (2000) in polymer science, he worked as researcher at the Korea Institite of Science and Technologies (KIST).

Then, he obtained his Ph.D. (2008) at the University of Connecticut. During his Ph.D.(Advisor: Prof. F. Papadimitrakopoulos), he studied a self-assembly and separation of carbon nanotubes using an organic molecules After graduation, he was a postdoctoral researcher (Prof. Jiwoong Park) at the Cornell University to study a optical characterization of carbon nanostructures. In 2011, he joined as a assistant professor at this University.
